Make a simple chives spread with herbs fresh from the garden.
This spicy herb spread is quick to make and pretty to boot with chive flowers sprinkled on top. You might be lucky to find chive flowers at farmers’ markets, but usually you’ll have to grow your own to get them. Chives bloom in summer. Snip them off as you need them. The flowers are edible and have a delicate onion flavour.
Ingredients
1 x 250g (8 oz) tub cream cheese
2 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
1 small garlic clove
¼ chopped fresh lemon thyme leaves
¼ chopped fresh dill leaves
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper (optional)
Additional chopped chives and flowers for serving
Mix everything together and serve in a bowl beside crackers. Serve extra chopped chives and chive flowers for sprinkling on top of your crackers.
