If your pear tree is overloaded with fruit, make this simple but tasty spread for toast, crumpets, pancakes or as a topping for ice cream. You could also add fancy labels and present the jars as sweet gifts to friends and family.
Pear butter
About 40 pears
1 ½ cups sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
1. Peel, core and chop pears then purée in food processor.
2. Place pear purée, sugar and spices in a large saucepan and bring to the boil.
3. Reduce to a simmer and cook, uncovered, and stirring occasionally, until reduced by half. Pour into sterilised jars.
Would this need to be water bathed?
Not if the jars and lids have been sterilised first.
