Multicoloured furnitureDon’t stick to one colour. Paint your furniture multiple hues to brighten up a room.

The quickest way to update a tired room or neutral palette is to paint a small item of furniture a bright colour. Though there’s no reason to stop at one colour. The latest trend is to use a multiple of colours.

Chairs, cabinets, dressers and tables that have seen better days can be revamped with paint or wood stain. The cabinet to the right has been sanded and stain applied to the drawers, each one a different colour. The frame and top are painted in black gloss paint.

Just like paint, wood stain comes in various colours. Check out the Resene Colorwood wood stain palette, which includes orange, yellow and red tones.

The rustic drawers above left have been painted then sanded to give a vintage appeal.

Changing the knobs or handles can also update tired furniture.
